Lists are powerful writing style with great effect for many years. Reader feel easier to understand and more valuable the article itself.
Just look at front page of social media (Digg, TweetMeme, Delicious) then you compare how many percentage is in list post style? I would say more than half!
Check out the screen shot of Delicious front page. The popular page was full of list post.

How to Write List Post ?
Basically 3 types of list post: Pure list post, extended list, and lists within post.
- Pure List Post – Just list out all points in short. Title is the key to tell what the list about. However readers often like them because too short.
- Extended List – The main points are broken down into a numbered list format. Each point extend into a new section.
- Lists Within Post – Most commonly used pattern. This post give the best example of this type.
I like to read list post too, but not too often. It is perfect for lazy reader. Don’t like list post with too long list that feel can’t finish.
I would prefer detail list post rather than just list out what you found. Probably within 10 points should be enough for 5-10 minutes of reading.
