Windows Live VS Google Pack !
Posted in Google, Reviews, Software | By AhTim @ November 21st, 2007
The Battle has just been started !
Microsoft just launch their latest Windows Live software that come with softwares for desktop, All-in-One security and performance tuning tools that seems like start the battle with few days ago. Although I am not sure the main purpose of Microsoft launched this new stuff, but we can compare and see they are same in many aspect!
Windows Live VS Google Pack
Refer to Windows Live package and package, I’ve come out the comparison table as below:
| Windows Live | Google Pack |
| Photo Gallery | Picasa |
| Writer | N/A |
| N/A | |
| Messenger | N/A |
| OneCare | N/A |
| - Antivirus | Norton Security Scan |
| - Antispyware | Spyware Doctor |
| - Anti-phishing | N/A |
| - Performance tune-ups | N/A |
| - Backup and Restore | N/A |
| Toolbar | Google Toolbar |
| N/A | Google Desktop |
| N/A | Star Office |
| N/A | Google Photos Screensaver |
After look at the comparison table, what is your conclusion? For me, both package have their own strong point.
For Windows Live users, they can read emails right on their desktop just like what I am doing, by using Windows Live Mail ( But a bit slow performance). Windows Live Writer integrated with their special feature to detect and load your blog theme into your writer profile, it make you feel very comfortable with your own theme while blogging. But take note the Windows Live OneCare is on trial 90 days, or you need to pay $49.95 per year for up to 3 computers.
For Google Pack users, I think Picasa is much more better than Photo Gallery due to its fast performance and advance image editing features. Furthermore, Google Pack well equipped with Norton Security Scan and Spyware Doctor to further protect your computer for Free (Yes, I like Free things!). Another impressive software that comes with Google Pack is Google Photo Screensaver that automatic download beautiful images from Google Photo feeds and show on your screen when your computer in rest mode
My two cents
From the release of Windows Live, we can see that the they are trying to expand their territory into free desktop application market as well as paid version security components.
After evaluate the two giant software leaders’ package, my conclusion is I still vote for Google Pack! In comparison on overall download , installation, and usage performance, definitely it goes to Google Pack. And the most important thing is Google Pack is Totally Free!
You can here, where Windows Live is free except Windows Live OneCare.
How about you? Why don’t download and evaluate yourself?

By the way, for all of those who are interested in actually exploring the Live aspects of Windows, you should know that: 1)with Live Writer you can post directly to Google Blogspot and not just to Windows Spaces; 2) with the advent of IE8 Beta2 browser, you can opt for complete privacy when browsing, but with the Google Chrome browser it has been released that at least 4% of online information cannot be deleted, and privacy browsing is nonexistant; 3) Live OneCare has shot through the ranks compared to when it first started and is priced below most multi license companies;and 4) the Vista desktop search is more accurate and faster than anything available from Google. I use Gmail, but read, write, send, and receive via both Live Mail and Outlook.
