Why You Should Wait for iPhone 3.0 OS ?

Is not good time to buy iPhone 3G now. Apple is going to release the new iPhone 3.0 OS in few months later.

The iPhone 3.0 OS is a lot better than current version 2.2.1. It will be FREE for iPhone 3G and iPhone classic users, but iPod Touch users will have to pay $9.95 for the upgrade. Yet, nobody know all details until its final release.

iPhone 3.0 OS features

What so special in iPhone 3.0 OS ? This version will cover many of the iPhone users wish list. Long awaiting features as listed below.

  1. Multimedia messaging – MMS was at the top of the iPhone 3.0 wish list. But for me nothing exciting  about such basic feature in most mobile phone.
  2. Landscape Keyboard – Landscape mode will be available in more apps, including email.
  3. Cut, Copy and Paste – It finally here. It works across all applications.
  4. Stereo Bluetooth – Unexpected new feature. Just like A2DP in my Nokia N82.
  5. Text Messaging – It finally support text forwarding. Also nothing special to me. My Nokia 3310 already can do that 6 years ago.
  6. Real Time GPS navigation – iPhone wil become full featured turn-by-turn directions GPS device. Most probably will come through paid apps.
  7. Full Search - The search feature allow you to search your calendar, mail, iPod library, notes, and contacts all at once.
  8. Peer to peer network – Perhaps use for network gaming?

There are a lot more improvements not in list. Hope we get surprise on its final release.

My Two Cents

Still no news on two of the most concern features, Video recording and Flash support.

No video recording? Perhaps its build in camera resolution too low for clear video quality. Maybe it is too difficult to write flash plugin for Safari too.( Safari developer team too busy for its new version 4.0?)

I definitely will wait to upgrade my iPod Touch to OS 3.0, but not buying an expensive iPhone! Are you waiting for iPhone 3.0 OS too?

    Even if you buy the 3g iphone now, upgrades to OS 3.0 will be free for the iphone. So in all actuality, anytime would be a good time to buy since you can upgrade the software on it later at no cost.

    I’m with you on the iPod touch though. If you don’t already have one I would wait until they are sold with OS 3.0, instead of shelling out the extra $9.95 later.
