Website Security Hack Down !
Posted in Security | By AhTim @ October 24th, 2008
Beware of your website security hack down! Recently there are lots of website been hacked. I can easily list out at least 4 of them happen few days ago. Each hacker has different photo to show off after they hack a website.
An online friend told me he got 25 websites been hacked on last week! That’s ridiculous. Can you imagine how much money and time loss incur to recover them?
Websites Been Hack Down
The Websites been hack down are listed below. All happen within this month. Let’s see what the hacker did on these Websites. Normally they like to put on signature or funny picture. Check out what picture they use after successful hacking?
- Blogrolling – Is a web service to display the link lists on your blog or website. It has been hacked and down 2 weeks ago. I visit the website today, but it redirect me to the twitter status page. They take the entire website down until future notice. (What? 2 weeks haven’t up? What you all doing?) Anyway, you can check on the status on their twitter page. The hacker put on Islamic symbol and words picture on the hacked main page. This seems like masterpiece of Islamic hacker.

- Lowyat.net – Lowyat.net is the famous Tech forum in Malaysia. The Website been hack down on yesterday night. This is not the first time. In fact, the Website has been hacked for few times. This time, the hacker put on big title “Rabbits have infested Lowyat.NET and unplugged it from the Internet!”. The main page become a rabbit picture with chatbox at bottom. Looks like this hacker love rabbit and chatting huh? The Website recovered after 3 hours.

- Etiqa Insurance – One of the insurance Website own by Maybank group defaced by local hacker named Cuciotak few days ago. He/she also hacked down UiTM and MalaysianGP website recently. The site down for 5 hours before recover back. The word “Cuci otak” in Malay means “Wash Brain”. The hacker seems like humiliating the webmaster with the picture on landing page. (full story)

- The Hat – Its a desktop software allow you to random pick from list. Nice tool for drawing contest winner. I went to the download page, and it show me title “hACKED
” with terrifying picture. Its a bloody hand in dark background. The hacker use javascript to slowly show his/her words and nickname. It already down for 2 days, looks like administrator still don’t know. The picture really uncomfortable. Don’t look the picture if you afraid!
My two cents
I prefer the hacker to use cute picture like the rabbit at Lowyat.net. The last one too terrifying.
The most important is hope they don’t hack our blog or Website. Eventually, hack into Website does not bring any benefit to them too. Both parties are hurt. I suggest hacker to join hacking contest. Normally the hacker contest server is more challenging and could win attractive prizes!
No one Website can 100% protected from hacker. So the best practice is backup ! Backup and backup! Have you experience any Website hacked down?

I think that CuciOtak is one of hacker that we need to worried about. This hacker is not a defacer. I’m one of his victim. He manage to takeover all server but didn’t published our secret data. He only did what he always show on the page. For end user only see as he deface but apprently is NOT. He already takeover the server. FYI, based on my observation, he also manage to takedown hackermalaysia site, hackzone, torrent jiwang any many more…

I don’t like the act of hacking web sites. These hackers are creating nuisance for people, yet gaining nothing for themselves. Yes they may feel a sense of (empty) “achievement”, but it’s vanity, just going after the wind.
Anyway, like it or not, hacking is already used as a tool to advance one’s propaganda, or bring down one’s business rivals, or even enemies in war. I have customers who asked how to hack their competitors. Perhaps in future wars, where cyberwar is a main feature, hackers will be the ones very instrumental. I’m not justifying for hackers. But my point is that hacking is here to stay.
In a broader sense, “hacking” also means playing around with technologies, possibly to improve them. There are many scientists and inventors we acclaim who were actually “hackers” (not computer hackers) at their times to “hack around” to see what works better. Without their “hacking” skills, we would not be enjoying the standard of life we have now.

@Snipos: Wonder who is this guy cuciotak? Should employ him as internet security officer.
@Ricky: Agreed with you.
@cop: I admit hacker is too smart, but use talent in wrong way.
