VLC Media Player for iPod touch
Posted in iPod | By AhTim @ July 21st, 2008
We all are so excited to wait for the release of VLC Media Player for iPod touch and iPhone. It still not release the final version yet, but already available for paid BETA tester.
As you know, a lack of iPod touch is it very rely on sync from iTunes. The sync process waste a lot of times in format conversion and synchronization. I hope with VLC Media Player development, it give us the freedom of mobile movie entertainment!
Why use VLC4iPhone ?
The original software name vlc4iphone was developed by Zottd, a cool developer. The software has been changed to ZodPlay and changed back to vlc4iphone recently, to avoid confusion, says Zottd.
Although the name VLC4iPhone, it is compatible with iPod touch too. It is now supported video formats: XviD, H264, MPEG4, FLAC, 3GP, MP3, MPEG2, AVI, etc. There will be more formats coming in, hopefully RMVB one day.
How to Install VLC4iPhone ?
I know I should not reveal the method to install VLC4iphone in manual way. So far, VLC4iphone is only available for BETA tester who pay for it. I swear I respect intellectual software. But normally I won’t pay before try it.
After search and research, I’ve found a way to manually install ZodPlay, the predecessor of VLC4iPhone. It’s really a simple interface in its current version. Follow these simple steps to install on your iPod or iPhone manually (Of course, you must hack your iPod touch or iPhone first before proceed).
1. Download ZodPlay v0.9.5.7 (~7.8MB, in .PXL format)
2. After downloaded, rename it from .PXL to .ZIP
3. Extract the Zodplay zipped file. Should contain 2 subfolders, lib and ZodPlay folder.
4. Rename the subfolder ZodPlay to ZodPlay.app
5. SSH your ipod and go to Applications folder in iPod touch or iPhone.
6. Copy the ZodPlay.app folder to Applications folder in iPod touch or iPhone, set permisions of all the files and folders inside to 777.
7. Copy the library file from subfolder Lib into /usr/lib in your ipod and set permisions to 755.
8. Restart iPhone or iPod touch
9. Create folder “zodplay” in /var/root/Media/ directory.
9. Put Audio or Video files in the created ZodPlay folder.
10. You’re done! Launch ZodPlay and enjoy your videos.
I’ve installed both ZodPlay and VLC4iPhone in my iPod touch

Please respect intellectual and hard work of the developer. Donate or pay for the software if you like it. According to Zottd, its latest VLC4iphone version v0.9.5 has been added with streaming feature. Cool!
