Windows 1.0 to Vista Boot Up Screen

Many blamed Windows is lousy for decades. Even some don’t really go deep into OS have followed the trend to criticize.

In fact, nothing is perfect. From Windows history, at least we together saw its improvement from Windows 1.0 to Windows Vista (or the New Windows 7 in near future). Although its main problem is on stability, no doubt it did bring up the PC computer industry to the whole world. If not, I don’t think we all can have a computer at home now. Also, don’t forget it still leading in its user friendly GUI.

Myself never see Windows version earlier than Windows 3.11. My first OS installation was Windows 3.11 (over 10 diskettes) and Office 4.0 (more than 20 diskettes) 10 years ago!

Microsoft Windows 7 Features Preview

Although many say Microsoft Windows operating system is poor, it still the biggest player in Worldwide market. For example myself prefer MAC OS X Leopard, but it didn’t come as cheap as Windows price and also some hardware compatibility problem. At the end, I stick with Windows.

Actually not only me. Are you one of the Windows user here? I pick up the statistics from Google Analytics and found 71% Windows XP user, 27% Windows Vista user, and only 7% Macintosh user. From the results, we know most of the Windows user stick at Windows XP since it release on year 2002. Why? Are they waiting for better OS? Or they computer specs unable to support resources hungry Vista?

How to Dual Boot Vista and XP ?

Why dual boot Vista and XP? I help my sister in-law to order a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop computer six months ago. She was so excited with the big 20″ inch widescreen. But sad because can’t play much game in Windows Vista Home Basic. Those games can be installed but can’t play. I suspect is compatibility problem.

To resolve the problem, I’ve installed Windows XP into computer as second operating system. The Windows XP has been installed successfully without format the current harddisk. Vista is still remain inside but Windows XP take over as default boot up. So, I have to do some tricks to enable dual boot for Vista and XP (with Vista installed first).

How to Dual Boot Vista and XP ?

You need 2 softwares: Windows Vista DVD and EasyBCD. The rough idea is make it boot from Vista first (restore Vista boot up files). Then install EasyBCD to make it dual boot. (more…)
