The Smallest Linux Computer !

picotuxI know you have heard about the world’s largest LCD monitor and thinnest laptop. But have you ever heard about the smallest linux computer? The smallest linux computer must be Picotux.

Why say it is the smallest computer? Its size dimension only (35mm×19mm×19mm), slightly larger than a RJ45 connector. To easier for your imagination, I have combined the real photo side by side as below.

What picotux can run with its small size (even smaller than my thumb)? Inside, there is an ARM7 CPU at 55 MHz running uClinux kernel 2.4.27 and Busybox 1.0. So far, its only come with 8MB RAM and 4MB flash storage. You can use its serial or ethernet port (LAN) to program the system. It comes with webserver and telnet application.

If you noticed, there is power connector right beside the LAN port hole. It accept 110-220V power supply. With its POE (Power Over Ethernet) model, you don’t even need a separated power supply, Cool! :) (more…)
