Kubuntu Linux for Free Download

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Many people thought Linux is not user friendly, hard to use. That is 10 years ago ok!

Latest Kubuntu (Ubuntu + KDE) v8.10 has better Graphic User Interface (GUI) than Vista. Its latest v9.04 beta is even cooler.

Best of Kubuntu is you can install any open source application by using Debian application database. It support Compiz, the 3D multiple desktop too! Sure you could not find it run so real time in Windows.

What’s New in Kubuntu?

Not sure if you know a 700MB CD could setup full Kubuntu operating system plus most of general software you use daily. For example, Open Office, KTorrent, Amarok player, etc. The latest Kubuntu integrate with KDE 4.2.1.

You can’t resist the desktop effect and performance speed with KDE. Let’s see some screen shot after jump. The KDE 4.2 logo itself make me excited.

Until today, still got friends ask me what is the differences between Linux and Windows? This is an interesting question. Some of you may already know the answer. But could you list them out?

I’m not Linux expert. I won’t give Linux course here. Just share some good points that I found on Internet. Might be more than 8 points here. I think I just list out the important ones.

  • GPL License vs Ms Licensing – In fact, Linux belongs to the GNU Public License that allow user to access or alter the kernel as long using back the name “Linux”.Also, you can download a ginsle copy and install as many machines as you like. For Windows, no such thing as “Free”. You pay for server license, client license, client access license, terminal server client license and many more. (more…)

Do you remember the Apple App, MagicPad by Proximi? It is now available at iTune Store for $4. It is quite cheap but the drawback is cannot copy and paste out of MagicPad.

Now, Proximi has released the copy and paste framework to an open source project named OpenClip. I guess this is second open source app after WordPress for iPhone.

OpenClip Apps

You can’t simply install OpenClip into iPhone. It is a framework for free to be use by developer. It means any developer can integrate copy and paste feature into their app for free! Currently there are about 12 apps that participate in OpenClip project. Such as MobileChat, Twittelator, etc. (more…)
