iPod Touch as Travel Guide

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

With cheap ticket from AirAsia, we are travelling more especially young ones. Self tour or backpackers are so common nowadays. I wish to have my own self tour experience too.

Am targeting ShenZhen, ZhuHai and Hong Kong self tour on next year. Yes, self tour for more adventure, more flexible time and less product selling shop. My experience in Shanghai and Seoul told me group tour want us spend more money on their affiliated shop so they get better commissions.

Electronic Travel Guide

Since self tour don’t have tour guide, we need to plan trip by ourself. Travel guide book in bookstore could provide more ideas on attractions, things to do, transport and food. (more…)

Review: iPod Touch 8GB 2nd Generation

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

After unbox the iPod Touch 2nd Gen excitedly, I start transfer all data over from old iPod. Basically, the 2nd Gen almost same with 1st Gen. Of course it is better than its predecessor. Other wise nobody will buy it.

What’s new in iPod TOuch 2nd Gen? Main different is build-in speaker. But sad to say that the speaker is under expectation. The sound come out from ear phone jack hole, no dedicated speaker. Sound quality is soft and no surround. Anyway, it is better than no speaker.

Other than that, the sleek stainless steel design make it more stylist. The stainless steel cover up to front cover edge. Its curved design feel better on hand, like an iPhone 3G.

Another noticeable enhancement is the performance. I’m not sure the processor chipset use in 2nd gen. But can feel it load application faster. (more…)

LogoMe, You’re Fired!

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

LogoMe, you’re fired! I’m so happy my iPod touch 2.1 firmware like a new toy. But LogoMe make my iPod touch down with only black screen! No matter which button I press, it only stay at DFU / Recovery mode in iTunes.

If you notice, the QuickPwn tool allow you to change the boot logo during jailbreak. It change to a Pineapple logo instead of an Apple. But I don’t like the Pineapple, the logo not nice. LogoMe from Cydia installer help to change boot logo without hassle. But it does not work well in iPod touch.

iPod Touch Black Screen

Writen in LogoMe description, it can customize our boot logo without restore firmware. It require firmware iPhone 2.0.2 and above. Normally, apps available in repository are compatible between iPhone and iPod touch unless it specify.

Without any doubt, I install LogoMe into my iPod touch with customize boot logo from AhTim.com. During flashing firmware process, I’m a bit worry. It is dangerous to flash firmware directly. Unfortunately, the iPod dead (black screen) on my next reboot!! The screen has nothing (normal black blank screen) just like you can’t switch it on.

Broadcast iPod Touch Music with FM Transmitter

Monday, May 5th, 2008

As I mentioned in my wish list, I want to get a FM transmitter to broadcast music from my little iPod touch. Actually, I think Apple should include build in speaker for iPod in my opinion. Fortunately, I have got my FM transmitter to solve my need.

I have ordered the black color FM transmitter on last Wednesday and received it on Friday. Basically it just took 1 business day to send to my door step. Good seller and courier service!

Why Choose this FM Transmitter?

Why I choose this FM transmitter specifically for iPod? There are so many type of FM transmitter in the market, especially the MP3 audio line type. I have choosen the model designed for iPod due to its Digital PLL wave signal transmission. The signal reception won’t be affected easily and for sure is clearer.

As stated in the FM transmitter manual, the device can transmit between 87.9Mhz ~ 107.9Mhz frequency range. This mean we can define which range to use to broadcast. I found that the higher frequency works better. Some say the FM transmitter can transmit it’s signal within 10-30 feets. I have not experiment on the maximum length, but it works well when my iPod touch was 10 feets away from radio. This should be enough for use at home or in car.

This FM tranmitter model has another benefit is it allow to charge our iPod while broadcasting music. Most FM transmitter not allow that. I pay more for this function which is worth the price. (more…)
