MSN messenger looks so advance for me. During my ancient college time, ICQ and MIRC was so popular. We almost chat with friends, classmate everyday on the text-only instant messenger. At that time, yahoo and microsoft messenger are far behind ICQ. ICQ first lunch buddy contacts store on its server rather than personal computer. So we can get our buddy list anywhere once login to IM. We called it so advance! :)

Long time didn’t touch IM until few months ago use back MSN Messenger or so call Windows Live Messenger (no more plain Microsoft Messenger). Don’t need to discuss on MSN features, it is more than an IM.

MSN Messenger Smiley Emoticons

Normally I just use text IM, or video conferencing with outstation family member. Never use those fancy features in MSN messenger, such as smiley or emoticon. Yesterday when I chat with my wife, she sent me animated smiley in MSN chat window. Until then, I surprise my not-so-techie wife know how to use MSN “fancy” feature huh?

I think this maybe the fisrt time I learn computer knowledge from my wife. She teach me how to setup. Actually it is quite easy to setup in 2 steps.

  • Search for MSN Smiley in Google, browse the smiley you like and save into your computer (animated smiley in .GIF file format)
  • Add Smiley into MSN Messenger. Open MSN messenger, select Tools > Emoticons. Click Create, find and select the image you save in first step. Key in unique Shortcut key for your emoticons (up to 7 characters). Click OK and you’re done!
