Remote Control Computer via Wireless TouchPad
After hard work for the whole day, normally I’ll take a break at night to enjoy some movies on my 19″ inch wide screen LCD screen. I know that is not big enough compare to a 32″ LCD TV, but its just enough for my wife and I to watch.
Normally we lie down on sofa to enjoy movie. You know, when it comes to advertisement period, we just too lazy to wake up and forward to skip the ads. This really wasting time and destroy the joy of movie watching.
Recently I’ve installed an remote control application called TouchPad. I would say it is 100% much better than the previous VNsea. VNsea is too slow on its refresh rate, but TouchPad act real time on your computer. It just like your another TV remote control with mouse enabled!
How to Remote Control via TouchPad?
On iPod Touch / iPhone
1. Before you can install TouchPad, jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone to firmware 1.1.3.
2. Add ( http://cnp.qlnk.net/ ) into your repository sources.
3. After refresh, install TouchPad under Utilities category.
On PC Computer
1. Of course, you need to have an USB Wifi adapter and establish wifi connection between your computer and iPod Touch or iPhone.
2. Download and install free remote control software TightVNC 1.3.9 (~1.5MB) on your computer. Secure your VNC with strong password.
After all, now you are ready to remote control your computer via iPod Touch wirelessly. Tap on TouchPad.app and add in VNC servers ip address (that is your computer’s wifi ip) and VNC password. It take seconds to complete the negotiation. Touch and move on your iPod Touch screen then see your mouse moving on your computer!
My two cents
This is really a nice program since it does not load the whole computer image into iPod wirelessly. If not, it is really slow like VNsea via 802.11g (54 Mbps) connection. Unless upgrade to 802.11n (108 Mbps) in future which I think is impossible on my iPod touch.
For me, I like to use the “Remote” function in TouchPad. It works like a TV remote control. You can forward, backward, stop, pause, volume up, volume down, etc. So, now I can lie down on sofa and skip those ads while watching nice movie!
See the TouchPad demo clip. Cool!
I do not have a video recorder. So I have put in TouchPad demo from youtube.

After the 2.0 and 2.1 updates, there is an easier way to do this. there is an app on the app store that is called mocha VNC that doesen’t require you to jailbreak our ipod and works really well.
