Refine Firefox 3 | Online Tech Tips, Free Software for Everybody

Refine Firefox 3

Finally installed Firefox 3 in my computer. I tried to run the Free SMS software but still not able to. Although they claimed that it is compatible with any web browser, it just won’t run for me.

Firefox 3 has been out for download for quite some time. I did not upgrade mine because many feedback its compatibility problem with add-ons. After the RC 1 and RC 2 (release candidate), now come to final release on latest version. As a tech blogger, I have to adopt the changes and explore its new features.

Refine Firefox 3 Drawbacks

After install Firefox 3, I was excited to check out its new features. But I feel sad on first impression. At found 2 drawbacks that I don’t like: URL bar and add-on compatibility problem.

URL Bar

As you can see on snapshot below, the so called Smart Location bar extend to URL page title. IT claims to be more searchable using meaningful words. But don’t you think it is clumsy and eats up lots of spaces (long drop down menu) in your Firefox browser?

Initially I thought want to hack using manual way, but there is a ready made add-on or extension to solve it. The oldbar extension developed by Seth Spitzer will set the URL bar back to single line suggestion, without the page title. See? I have converted mine. :)

Add On Not Compatible

It is sad to say that my lovely Google Photos Screensaver 2.0 is not compatible with Firefox 3.(sigh) What to do? Wait for next upgrade version lo…

Temporary install another screensaver extension call FoxSaver. Hope the nice, beautiful photos available too.

The Improvements

Although it has few drawbacks in my first impression, I still love Firefox. After explore, I like its improved features such as one click bookmarking, search library for bookmarks and history, better password manager, and better download manager. More features here.
