Some of the recent rage for the last year or so has been profiles link building; the practice of creating member profiles on high PageRank, DoFollow sites.
- A lot of people swear by this method
- A lot of people say it’s not worth the effort and doesn’t work
- Some say that remaining old school is the way to go.
I did some research on a marketing forum where a lot of these links packets are being sold and the following is what I came up with (with the help of the people who responded to the thread) for Profiles Link Building Best Practices.
What is Profiles link building?
It’s the practice of getting free memberships at certain types of sites, then creating profiles on them. When you create a “fleshed-out” profile or just a bare bones profile you get to place a URL or two in these “bios” /profiles.
However you only want to target high Page Rank site for profiles link building that have DoFollow attributes enabled, otherwise the whole exercise is pretty much worthless.
Why should it work well?
Because these are all high Page Rank sites, the profiles created there tend to get some Pagerank too (after a while).
And since these profiles pages won’t have many outgoing links on them, their link juice “could” be better than getting a link for a PageRank 3 url with 100 outbound links dividing and dividing the overall PageRank and juice which pretty much lessens the “link juice of a page”.
If this sounds like SEO “gibberish” let me put it another way….
- Let’s say you use some software to find a Dofollow blog where the comments are actually DoFollow-’ed.
- You get to the blog or url and see that it’s a Pagerank 3 URL, sweet!
- The Pagerank isn’t even on the main site alone but on the actual URL you’re commenting on!
- But that’s smoke and mirrors, because PageRank acquired for a URL doesn’t always translate into link juice passed on down to your urls in your comments or even the URLs mentioned in the content of your articles on site (even if do-followed)
- Therefore, the less outbound links a specific URL has on it the better chance it has of passing some decent link juice along with it.
- Since these profiles URLs won’t be receiving too many comments they are assured of not bleeding Pagerank and link juice.
So that’s why this method should work well, and some people say its worthless others say it’s worthwhile etc…
