Sorry to say I have to uninstall Avast 5.0 antivirus and install Panda Cloud Free Antivirus. Why? Avast detected a virus in my PC but can’t remove it even I did a boot time scan.
Panda Cloud antivirus is the first Cloud Antivirus, and most important it is Free! What is cloud antivirus? Unlike traditional antivirus that need download virus update and scan locally, this does NOT require virus update!
Low Memory and CPU Usage
Instead, it scan via the cloud aka remote servers through Internet connection. Which means it always scan with the latest virus pattern with minimum memory and CPU usage on local computer.
I’m not going to write full review on it. It has been reviewed by LiewCF, you may find more details and installation tips here.
Cloud Antivirus Experience
The scanning process extremely fast than my expectation, finish Quickscan in less than 4 minutes! Manage to find and kill 2 virus in PC, which Avast can detect but can’t remove. My PC is safe now.
Further, you can browse Internet or watch movie while scanning without any lagging. The only concern is when you have no Internet connection, the antivirus maybe useless. So make sure you are online always, not suitable for offline user.
Other than that it is a perfect free antivirus so far. Want to try it out? Download it here now.

Hi AhTim,
I am writing from the PR Department at Panda Security.
First of all, thanks so much for such a nice review on Panda Cloud Antivirus. It was great.
One little thing though: “The only concern is when you have no Internet connection, the antivirus maybe useless. So make sure you are online always, not suitable for offline user.”
Panda Cloud Antivirus does protect you even when you are not connected to the Internet. You can get more info at: http://blog.cloudantivirus.com/2009/05/04/frequently-asked-questions/
You do not need to be connected to the Internet all the time in order to be protected. Cloud Antivirus stores a “local cache copy” of Collective Intelligence for offline operation. As soon as you disconnect, Cloud Antivirus still works in the background, checking every file against its local cache of detections. This local cache includes, amongst other things, detection for all malware files which are currently in circulation and affecting users.
Thanks so much for everything
Best regards,
Javier

More virus found does not mean it’s a better antivirus software as there are many false positives, many antivirus software allows user to set the sensitivity to high, medium or low. But if high detection rate makes you feel safer, by all means psychologically. If my current Antivir fails me one day, I might try Panda.

Javier mentioned that “local cache copy” is it same as virus database ?
As i perform offline scan, total ram uses ~35MB.
