Norton Antivirus Installation Interrupted Error
Posted in Tips & Tricks | By AhTim @ October 20th, 2009
One of my server was attacked by Rontokbro virus few days ago. The Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition not only cannot stop it, but also dead after the attack!
The virus was created so smart to attack antivirus first before spread itself. No choice have to use third party tools to remove it.
Once cleaned, I try reinstall back Norton Antivirus but failed. It end up with “interruption” error. I stuck there, can’t remove nor install it. At last, found the workaround at Symantec Support page.
Delete Registry Keys
The long list of steps almost make me mad!
But better than no solution. I think registry is the root cause. Because it work right after I delete the registry keys. In fact I have deleted symantec registry before this but doesn’t help. You have to delete all 6 registry keys mentioned.

Now my server antivirus is up and running again. So far my experience told me Norton is not the best product in antivirus software. Do you have suggestion for stronger antivirus and security? Please tell me if you know any.

According to AV Comparative
http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report23.pdf
The best antivirus is G Data, a german company – Hardware based. Detection rate in order, highest the best:
1. G Data
2. Avira
3. McAfee
4. Symantec
5. Avast
6. F-Secure
7. BitDefender
8. eScan
9. Trustport
10. ESET
Surprisingly, Kaspersky and AVG did not make it to the top 10.
Get a switch/hub/router with firewall. Hardware is always better than software when it comes to viral attacks.
