Believe or not, my house automatic gate receiver board burned after heavy rain!
Heavy Rain Burn My House Gate System
Last Sunday night after I back home, noticed the automatic gate is open and close by itself. I thought it was remote control problem. I checked all remote controllers but no one is switch on.
I guess the only root cause was heavy rain. The rain water might go into the board and it out of control. No choice, I have to turn off the main switch.
On following morning, I decide to test it again. After turn on main switch, I pressed the remote control button. And guess what? It “boom”! An explode sound heard come out from receiver. Oh no…the receiver is totally dead now, I guessed.
I phoned technician come to check. They open up the receiver, it was made in Italy and use since year 1995! That is already 14 years long, more than enough. Since no warranty on replace board, I decided to replace a new automatic house gate system.
Burned Automatic gate receiver and old motor.

New Automatic House Gate System
Its my first time to replace this gate system. Don’t know it is quite expensive. It cost me $1100 (RM) for this new set. It is local brand with reasonable price because recommend by a sister.
This new gate system has 2 new features which old one does not have. The backup battery and speed intelligent. It won’t use infrared (IR) sensor but tension sensor build inside motor.
Once tension sensor hit a thing which higher than the tension, it stop automatically. It save your children life when accident happen. Also, it will calculate the track length, then slow down when close to the end of track. Intelligent, isn’t it?
New gate motor. Smaller motor, but with intelligent.

Receiver unit on wall with backup battery.

It took 4 hours to fix the whole system. Motor plate fixing is the hardest part. And it is first time I know how to tune the remote controller code. Just have to pair the 8 jumpers in correct position!
See the metal track get rusty? I’m going to replace the whole track to stainless steel tomorrow. If not, the friction is going to kill the gate motor.

14 years? that is a piece of over engineered technology, which is bad when it lacks so many safety feature in today’s hardware.
Just like mercedez benz, you won’t feel the speed if you hit 200km/hr. Dangerous… as usual, that is why our government gave us proton for our own good
