Make Firefox to Run Faster !
Posted in How To, Web Browser | By AhTim @ February 9th, 2008
Today I noticed my Firefox running extremely slow. I thought it was streamyx problem, but the ping results to TM DNS server is fast.
After check my Firefox browser in task manager, I found my Firefox is running at more than 300MB in RAM (Physical Memory). This is ridiculous! I just open few tabs to check emails and read feeds. It cannot be so heavy on these simple daily tasks.
Mostly this was cause by cache memory. Cache is temporary files that stored in your computer when browsing internet. Although it helps reduce our internet bandwidth consumption, but might slow down internet browser’s performance.

How to Make Firefox Run Faster?
To solve this problem, I have to clear the cache in my Firefox. I think it is really long time since my last clean up. To let Firefox clear cache automatically, goto Tools, Options, check “Always clear my private data when I close Firefox”. Firefox will clear your cache every your close it.
Now, my Firefox should run faster every time I relaunch my browser!

I have another trick to make firefox release memory when you minimize it.
-Type about:config in the address bar.
-Right click in the browser and select New->Boolean.
-In the popup box enter config.trim_on_minimize. Click OK. -Select True and then click OK. Restart firefox.
This trick reduce my firefox memory usage to around 20-30MB each time i minimize my firefox. Cool?

A lot of good tips here. Also, if you click on the settings button before you clear the private data, you can choose which data to clear. That way, when you do it, you can still have Firefox remember form details and addresses you’ve typed in.
