How to increase your RSS readers ?
Posted in Blog Tips, Increase Traffic, SEO Tips | By AhTim
What a great increment like helicopter for my Alexa ranking! I just posted about How I boost Alexa ranking from 1,456,330 to 570,301 in 35 Days ?on last Friday. After weekend holiday, you guest what’s my latest Alexa ranking? It went up to new rank - 529,225. This means AhTim.com jump ahead against 41,076 websites and blogs within 2 days ! Cool huh?
But as I noticed, there are not much difference on my RSS readers stat. So I decide to do more research on increase my RSS readers before it’s too late! After my research today, I found that there are 2 ways to boost my RSS readers instantly, but don’t know the effectiveness yet.
I know there is so many methods to increase my RSS readers, but I would like to try out the instant way to BOOST my RSS readers:
1. Subscribe to Web directories
Recently Ades just post an article regarding how to submit your RSS feed to these web directories in Free (Yes, I like Free things
He link to 5 blog post that compile with a full list of free RSS web directories. So I’ve submited my RSS http://AhTim.com/feed/ to most of the web directories unless some directories that have error “page not found”. But I think if you submit to the first 55 web directories is enough, all others list looks like duplicated.
2. Use Firefox script
Discovered an evil method tested by JonLee. Since Firefox has the “network.prefetch-next” variable set to true by default, we can add a little HTML tag in our blog, and this would tell all your visitors with Firefox web browser to prefetch your feedburner feed without their knowledge. Cool isn’t it?
So I’ve put the code in between the <head></head> section:
<link rel=”prefetch” xhref=”http://AhTim.com/feed/” />
Seems like this method only applicable to Firefox 1.x
Because of how the browser operates, version 1 of Firefox might be overstating the number of Live Bookmarks subscribers and some casual visitors may be counted as subscribers. This is fixed in version 2 and will show up as a separate entry called “Firefox Live Bookmarks”.
Since that I the case, I am not sure whether this method is applicable for latest or not. If you haven’t upgrade your Firefox, recommend to upgrade your now!
My two cents
I’ve submited my RSS feed to most of the 55 web directories and it boost up my RSS readers to double amount of my average readers. Yesterday the feedburner stat show up 34 readers which is new record for me at AhTim.com
After that, I’ve added the Firefox script into my blog and still waiting for the result on today evening. Hopefully it help to boost up again to new record! Regarding the use of Firefox script method, it is just an experimental techniques to boost your RSS readers. I am not encouraging you to use the “evil” method, but it is worth a try to see the effect of the secret technique! If you use this method, I would expect your RSS readers stat to drop within few days since they are not really your blog subscriber. So the best method to increase your RSS readers is write quality content! There is no shortcut for anybody.

Don’t forget to add the code that displays the little feed button in the top of the URL bar in your web browser. This just provides another chance that the reader will subscribe.
Subscribe buttons should be extremely obvious. Your blog here does a great job of that. If a person has to search for a place to subscribe they’ll just leave.
