I have did a guest post about how to choose a good and trusted blog hosting server at LiewCF.com. This is just like how you choose a nice house to stay.

After you have a nice house, now the important thing is it secure? Have you employ security guard to patrol your house? Or at least fix in latest alarm system? I am not expert in physical security, but at least I know how secure is my blog hosting server. The lesser information you disclose to others, the higher security level you have.

To check how much information your blog hosting server has disclosed, you need to scan it with Netcraft. Netcraft is an internet monitoring tool that provide you useful information about a website. It is a favorite tool that use by many hackers to collect information before hacking.

So its a good practice to scan your own blog hosting server before others scan for you. Once finish, click on sitereport to see the results like my screenshot below.

Get what from Netcraft results?

As you can see, my blog hosting server disclose the apache version, plus other engines version to public which is not good. With this information, hackers can find known bugs in that version and exploit the server using some hacking techniques. But since April 2007, we can’t get any more details about my blog hosting server. I believe they have upgraded some security patches on the server.

Furthermore, the “Last Changed” date represent how frequent is the server OS or softwares update. From the results, my blog hosting server has been updated at least 9 times on year 2007. This mean they have really maintain the server well with latest updates or patches.

My two cents

After analyze my blog hosting server, I have found that my blog hosting server is highly secured compare to many bloggers. I think this is a must as a pro blogger!

For those who found their hosting server disclose too much information to the public, they should send email to the hosting service provider and ask for help.
