Do you noticed different blog theme will affect your Adsense CTR? I have experienced the big difference between 2 blog theme. As you know, I have changed WordPress theme from Soveryn to Cool Water 3 Columns recently.

Let’s me compare the main landing page side by side.

Basically, the position of Adsense ads in both WordPress theme is almost the same. I did not change the ads size and position. But the WordPress theme makes the difference.

Due to Google TOS, I should not reveal my CTR. So I have compiled a simple 3D graph to compare. These are the clicks per day for May and June. I just took few days for sampling. As you can see, it make number of difference by up to 2x (double) on maximum and 72% increased CTR on average! Wow, can expect better Adsense earnings for this month.

Conclusion:

As a conclusion, I have increased my CTR by changing my WordPress theme, not the position and size. Of course, it might make difference too if I experiment on its position and size.

Then why WordPress theme can make the difference? I found the 2 main factors:

• Blog Loading Speed – With this thinner and shorter theme, my blog load faster ( I time it with FasterFox). Hence the visitors have higher possibilities to view the ads and click on it.
• Fresh Colour Design – The Cool Water 3 Columns theme used fresh cool colours (light blue and green), simple and tidy design. Compare to Soveryn, it was mainly dark blue and gray which make people feel down. So I think the fresh colours make visitors feel more comfortable and peace of mind while surfing.

My two cents

I am quite happy with the Cool Water 3 Columns theme performance so far. Hope the increasing earnings help me to pay some petrol and web hosting bill for next year.
