HD DVD vs Blu-ray

What is HD DVD and Blu-ray?

HD DVD or High Definition DVD is a new high definition video disc standard that delivers up to six times the image quality of standard DVD movies. It uses Blue Laser technology having a much shorter wavelength than the red laser technology used in current DVD.

Blu-ray is similar to HD but it uses a blue-violet laser.

What is the difference?
Blu-ray has a large capacity up to 25GB of storage on a single-sided disc and 50GB on a double-sided disc. HD DVD discs hold 15GB (single sided) or 30GB (double-sided). Although Blu-ray has advantage to hold bigger capacity but I think 15GB should be enough to store a HD movie.

Why choose HD DVD?

There are at least two reason why bchoose HD DVD. A DVD holds about two hours of standard definition video, but an HD-DVD can hold about 48 hours. Further more, it is cheaper than Blu-ray which is too expensive for home user.

Toshiba has launched it’s first affordable HD DVD Players which bring you excellent movie quality with its latest video format and technology.

So my question is when will you upgrade your home DVD player? :)
