For those who don’t know, ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange is a character encoding based on the English alphabet. ASCII codes represent text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that work with text. (from wikipedia)
If you watched Matrix some years ago, I am sure you was impressed by it’s software to convert images to characters or vice versa. Or have you received forward emails from friends that contain images build from characters? Do not confound if you saw these images! They do not type the characters from scratch to make an image!
How to Build ASCII Image?
Now, you can convert any image to high quality ASCII art text that accurately represents the original image with clicks. If you don’t like black and white ASCII image, you even can preview in colors like my photo here. I convert my family’s photo to ASCII text art with color enabled.
To do the convertion, you need ASCII Generator dotNET (ascgen2). Just download and double click on the executable file to run, no installation needed. You need at least .NET framework 2.0 installed on your computer to run ASCII generator. This version support variable width fonts, and real-time output adjustment.
After ASCII generator load finish, goto File -> Load Image. Choose and open your photo then see it convert automatically. No waiting no hassle.
My two cents
Although its zip file size just 130KB, but it run perfect on the conversion. Further more, no need installation. But when run for the first time, it take some time to load the program. I am not sure what is running behind. For overall, what you want for more since it is easy to use and Free? Convert your image to ASCII image now, and post it here!
