I have been blogging here for 9 months. Within a year, I have bought an domain name and web hosting, upgraded web hosting plan the first time, upgrade for second time and go for larger web hosting plan. Over the time, I have spent hundreds of bucks in domain name and web hosting! That’s not cheap. Fortunately, my online earning make me some money to cover the cost.

Among my family or friends of mine, most of them using free blog provider as their blogging platform. Well, there are few reasons they stick to it. Because it is Free, no need renewal fees, easy to maintain. I think this is reasonable especially for those house wife, student or hobby blogger. What they want is just a platform for them to blog. As I mentioned yesterday, I have purchased an upgraded web hosting plan. But the blog would not migrate to the new web hosting server by itself. How good it is if the blog know how to migrate by itself.

To migrate your web hosting server is not an easy job. It consist a lot of effort and time. I would say migrate web hosting server is just like how you move your house. So, better plan properly before migrate!

Im glad to see you all again here! Last week, all my blogs (including my wife and my brother) were down due to bandwidth limit exceeded! This is the first time happen on me.

2 weeks before this happen, I noticed my blog’s bandwidth increasing too fast and I have upgraded extra 1GB bandwidth to support till end of the month. But the fact is it fail to support such traffics. Recently, my blog has reaching nearly average 1000 visits daily.

Why Upgrade Blog Hosting Plan?

My current blog hosting plan is 5GB bandwidth per month. This blog itself already took up more than 4GB bandwidth. The other 2 blogs consume the rest bandwidth. I have upgraded blog hosting plan two times since I start blogging within 6 months. Now, I have no choice but to upgrade for the third time!

I am so sad because my blogs have to down till start of next month to release bandwidth. I apologize for my nearly 100 RSS subscribers that follow my post daily. Fortunately, I still can micro blogging using twitter. (more…)

While everbody is talking about the hot topic Second Level Domain Name (2LD) Public Launch, somebody is taking the opportunity to make money!

The official launch is on 25th March 2008. MYNIC open the registration of second level domain name “.MY” to the public in Malaysia. You need a registered company or Malaysia Identity card in order to apply for a dot my domain name. A .MY registration fee is RM120 per year (~USD$38.70).

This .MY domain fees is quite expensive compare to a .COM domain. We can get a .COM domain name for less than USD$10 easily which is nearly 4 times cheaper than .MY domain name.

The Make Money Idea

While we are thinking whether need to register a simpler, shorter internet address for better branding, somebody had taken big company’s domain name. One of the big domain name Google.my was registered by an web design company named DIGIAttack located in Ipoh.

I thought it was reserved for Google. After check the registrant details, it was not the case. Maybe you doubt is this a mistake by Google representative in Malaysia? Or Google never border on this second level domain?

I tried to search for others well known domain such as Yahoo.my, Youtube.my, and Gmail.my. All registered by related MYNIC handle. So I think the Google.my registered successful by some individual was due to a mistake (correct me if I wrong).

Now, what is he going to do with this Google.my domain name? Hmm, maybe write a search engine for Malaysian? Or sell it to Google Inc Malaysia representative? I think he can make some good money with this domain name!

Do you register a .MY domain name?

If your business based in Malaysia, I suggest you register quickly to secure your brand name. Of course, must check domain name availability first before register. Although it is much more expensive, but its worth to grab your own short brand name.

For myself, I will stick with my .com at this moment. To maintain few domains or blogs simultaneuosly is not that easy. Further more, domain name is just a name. Content and reader network is much more important.

I found some weird situation. Some domain name has not been register by someone (for eg: iphone.my), but MYNIC mentioned it is not available for registration? Do you know why?

Writing 642-901 and 642-812 has never been this easy. Now a N10-003 professional can attempt 70-431 as well as 640-822 and 640-863 whenever he is ready for it.
