Observe and analyze a successful blog doesn’t mean to copy them. It is a way of learning.

Just like a baby doesn’t know how to speak. He need to observe how dad or mum speak in order to learn. When growing, he develop own style to speak, yet still in same language.

Now the question is HOW to analyze and benefit from a successful blog?

First, you need to identify which blog has success in your niche? If not sure, check their rank in technorati, google search position for keywords in your niche, or their Alexa ranking.

Analyze Top Blog in Your Niche

Observe aspect below by using the questions

  • Content – What topic they cover? What topic they ignore? How is their writing style? How often they do posting?

Promote a Blog Post (Day3 of 31 Days Challenge)

It is meaningless if we write blog everyday but no reader. Promote a blog post is like marketing for your article.

Many Blogger promote their blog in wrong way! See the title “Promote a Blog Post”. Yes, promote a post doesn’t mean to promote your domain name as a whole. Instead should promote “a” post that reader want the most.

8 Ways to Promote a Blog Post

I’m going to summarize what ProBlogger.net propose.

  • Link Bait Other Bloggers – Propose an interesting post to other bloggers in that niche. They might write and link to it if it is worth.
  • Social Messenging – Twitter, FaceBook messenging is famous and easiest way to share with friends. Don’t hesitate to share specific post that your friends interested to read.
  • Social Bookmarking – Easiest way to get notice by others. But not too often, if not people might treat you as spam.
  • Internal Links – Link back to previous post that your reader might not notice. It is another efficient way to keep reader stay in the blog longer. (more…)

Lists are powerful writing style with great effect for many years. Reader feel easier to understand and more valuable the article itself.

Just look at front page of social media (Digg, TweetMeme, Delicious) then you compare how many percentage is in list post style? I would say more than half!

How many blog platforms do you know? I sure you know the famous one: wordpress, blogger.com, and myspace. But actually there are more platforms in the blogsphere.

The blog platform is engine of the website. It drive auhor to their destination. Pie chart below show blog platforms use by Top 100 blogs.

Needless to say, WordPress is the most-used platformamong self-hosted blogs. Follow by Typepad and Blogsmith.

Get Top 100 blogs platform list here. Surprise me that Engadget and Gizmodo (my favourite tech / gadget blog) not using WordPress. Engadget use Blogsmith while Gizmodo using Gawker media platform. (more…)
