Broadcast iPod Touch Music with FM Transmitter
Posted in Gadgets, iPod | By AhTim @ May 5th, 2008
As I mentioned in my wish list, I want to get a FM transmitter to broadcast music from my little iPod touch. Actually, I think Apple should include build in speaker for iPod in my opinion. Fortunately, I have got my FM transmitter to solve my need.
I have ordered the black color FM transmitter on last Wednesday and received it on Friday. Basically it just took 1 business day to send to my door step. Good seller and courier service!
Why Choose this FM Transmitter?
Why I choose this FM transmitter specifically for iPod? There are so many type of FM transmitter in the market, especially the MP3 audio line type. I have choosen the model designed for iPod due to its Digital PLL wave signal transmission. The signal reception won’t be affected easily and for sure is clearer.
As stated in the FM transmitter manual, the device can transmit between 87.9Mhz ~ 107.9Mhz frequency range. This mean we can define which range to use to broadcast. I found that the higher frequency works better. Some say the FM transmitter can transmit it’s signal within 10-30 feets. I have not experiment on the maximum length, but it works well when my iPod touch was 10 feets away from radio. This should be enough for use at home or in car.
This FM tranmitter model has another benefit is it allow to charge our iPod while broadcasting music. Most FM transmitter not allow that. I pay more for this function which is worth the price.
How To Broadcast with FM Transmitter?
It is pretty easy to use. Just plug into iPod touch dock. Our iPod touch will detect it and show “Accesory Attached” message. It should prompt out the frequency range for iPod Nano, Video but not iPod touch. So, you will have to search your FM frequency using your radio frequency search feature. You also can adjust the frequency range by pressing up or down button. The FM transmitter will auto save the last set frequency.

Initially, I set my FM frequency to 99.7Mhz and it received from my radio. But it is not stable when driving. I think it is because it clash with one of the indian channel.
When my car turn in corner, it play indian song; while drive on straight road, it sing iPod’s music with a little bit of distortion sound.
After that, I have increase it’s frequency to 101.25. It works perfectly like listen to CD quality. Now, my iPod touch even more power with its real mobility, not only its size but also its big speaker with any radio system!
Tune to the clearest reception frequency and save it to my channel 3 using car radio.

Broadcast musics in car. Choose and play my favourite musics with single tap. No need change CDs.

No only music, but also can sing karaoke by playing MTVs from mxtube.

Now, I lack of a suitable iPod touch holder in car. I want a stylist holder that can twist horizontal and vertical. Do you have any suggestion?
