5 Ways to Speed Up Your PC

I’ve went through the 5 ways to speed up your PC at Microsoft Website. I found it is useful and rewrite the tips. I want to make the speed up process itself even faster than the build in Windows utilities.

Many Windows user like me face the slowness after use for some time. My friend took 5 minutes to boot up and login to Vista on her HP laptop. That is really ridiculous! Hope these 5 ways could help to increase your computer speed too.

5 Ways to Speed Up Your PC

By following these few simple steps, you can maintain your computer easily and keep it running smoothly.

  • Free up disk space

You can improve your computer performance by freeing disk space. Windows build in Disk Cleanup Tool is an easy to use tool. This tool identifies files that you can safely delete. You can speed up the Disk Cleanup Tool to run faster using my tips.

  • Disk Defragmenter

When files are fragmented, your PC take longer time to collect back data bit by bit in different location and open for you. Hence disk fragmentation will slow down the overall performance in your computer. Since this can’t be avoid in Windows system, you have to defragment your hard disk  from time to time.

Don’t use the slow build in Windows deframenter. Use the fastest way to defrag your hard disk.

  • Detect and Repair Disk Error

This might be the one that I overlooked. Hard disk that contain bad sector or integrity error can slow down your system without notice.

In My Computer, Right Click on your hard disk > Properties > Check Disk. Tick the option to “fix your file system error” automatically.

  • Protect against Spyware

Spyware steal your personal information without your notice. Some even crawl ads and display on your computer. These underground activities can slow down your computer. Check out my experience how to protect computer from spyware.

  • ReadyBoost

This is a new concept of adding memory to a system in Window Vista. The Ready Boost function allow you to use flash memory like a USB flash drive or a memory card to improve performance without having to add additional memory (RAM).

This feature is available in every edition of Vista. Just plug in your USB stick. The system will ask you whether want to speed up system performance if your USB stick is fast enough.

My two cents

I think we are all familiar with most of the tips above. Only thing we have to do it frequently to maintain our PC in healthy mode.

I never tired on the last tip, Ready Boost. I’m curious how well it perform? Anybody have try it before? Please share your experience with us after add in USB stick as Ready Boost. ;)

Thanks for the informative post. I dread things like this sometimes. It’s rather confusing. What I do is just run my computer through a computer check up at one of those free websites
