3 Ways to Save Petrol Money

Nowadays everything is inflating. The breaking news of new petrol price on yesterday evening make car owners crazy. It is more than 40% increase! I can fill up my fuel tank with 60 bucks before yesterday, but now have to spend more than 80 bucks for a full tank. :(

I’m afraid how will the effect for the next 2 weeks. Also, how we going to survive when the real floating petrol price on this coming August?

How to Save Petrol?

I suggest to become a save money blogger before enter into full time blogger or make money blogger. Because prevention is better than cure. :)

After some research, I have some interesting idea to save your petrol that you might not know!

1. Timing of Pump in Petrol

Timing of pump in petrol is one of the important factor to save petrol. Pump in petrol in early morning when the temperature is still cold. So that your liter is an exact liter. When the ground get warmer, the petrol gas expand and you get lesser than real capacity.

When filling up the petrol, do not squeeze the trigger to fast mode. The slower the more petrol you get. Also, do not wait until your fuel tank empty to top up. Most ideal timing is add petrol once reach half tank. The more air occupying in fuel tank, the faster your petrol get evaporates!

I don’t know how true is this, but it seems logic. I have planned to practice this for 1 month, and see the results. Hopefully it works! ;)

2. Petrol Budget

Calculate your petrol budget and decide where to go. I know this is not an easy job. For me, I’ve fix the amount of petrol spend per week (except travel outstation). Follow the budget plan strictly and see the effect at the end of the month. Do not simply drive without a good route plan.

3. GPS gadget

Global Positioning System (GPS) can work more than a map. Yes, it can help you to save some petrol money if you know use it wisely. So far as I know, GPS could let you choose the mode of route to destination. Either fastest time or shortest way?

Which way can save more petrol? I know this is quite controversy. Based on my experience, I believe the shortest way mode should save more petrol money.

My two cents

Maybe the forth method I should include is take bicycle to short distance as we can. Maybe I should take bicycle to work. :)

I know many already feel the pain of inflation, not only petrol but also daily groceries, food, etc. And this is just a starting of inflation, so be wise when spend your money.

Keep your tires fully inflated. I heard that somehow increases your miles per gallon slightly. I think making sure your car has oil changes when it needs them will help too.

Very good article you’ve got here.

Another way to save money is to not completely stop at stop signs, or drive certain paths that you don’t stop at all. This helps because then your car doesn’t have to overcome the force of static friction whose maximum is higher than kinetic friction, and if you can drive with as few stops as possible then you reduce the amount of probable “quick stops, quick starts” that waste lots of gas.

Also if you can, drive where the speed limit is 55mph. This is about the ideal speed for vehicles to save gas.

Lastly, http://www.aptera.com/ the Aptera is coming (first to California). It will get around 300 miles per gallon over 120 miles (about 1000mpg over 50 miles), and will initially only cost about as much as a Honda hybrid (~$30,000) which gets about 30mpg. Plus they expect the cost to go down over time.

    @Amaroq: Good point!
@Jach: Logically yes, practically not. :)
@Wing Loon: Also have to consider the high installation fees.
