3 Easiest Steps Upgrade to Wordpress 2.6
Posted in WordPress | By AhTim @ July 23rd, 2008
WordPress 2.6 has been released for quite a while. Many has upgraded their blogs to the latest WordPress 2.6 without any problem. So, I decided to upgrade my WordPress 2.5 to WordPress 2.6 too.
I hate to reinstall and setup back whole things. So, I’ve come out a manual way to upgrade WordPress in minutes. 3 easiest steps upgrade to WordPress 2.6:
1. Download Wordpress 2.6 (~1.2MB)
2. Unzip it, Upload and Replace your WordPress hosting, except: wp-config.php file and wp-content folder.
3. Point your browser to “http://yourdomain/wp-admin/upgrade.php“. Follow the instructions on screen to continue and upgrade within seconds.
WordPress 2.6 New Features
I don’t need to say much on its new features since there are so many good reviews for your reading.
- LiewCF – WordPress 2.6 and New Features
- The “Break it Down” Blog – WordPress 2.6 Released – New Feature Summary
- ShoeMoney – WordPress 2.6 new Under The Hood Features
Frankly speaking, the latest version doesn’t have much different for me. Maybe I need more times to learn and benefit from its new features.
My two cents
As logged in my twitter, I’ve completed the whole upgrade process in 10 minutes. Most of the time wasted in uploading. My broadband just 384Kbps uploading speed, really slow! The upgrade process itself pretty fast within seconds. So, you might upgrade WordPress 2.6 faster if you have faster upload speed!
Have you upgrade to the latest WordPress 2.6? Any problem you face?

Or if you’re like me and has SSH access to their blog.
1. Open their SSH.
2. Navigate to their WordPress root folder.
3. Type in “svn sw http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.6/” or whatever the latest version number is.
4. Hum for 5 seconds.
No really. That’s all it takes. 5 seconds. Cause I usually update a bunch of blogs for other people. The first thing I do is try and get SSH access if I can and just update it that way. Doesn’t take me 10 minutes to update 20 blogs. Cause I don’t need to download and upload the folder. It’s updated straight from the WordPress repository. Instant awesomeness.
