Do you have files or folders that you do not want to share with others? I know you will say as long as we do not share our computer login password, we are safe. But how if you are sharing computer with your colleagues in office? Even you do not share, your administrator is able to unlock your login user account with their super user rights. (This is one of the administrator job)

So how you protect your private and confidential files and folders? Don’t get me wrong, I am not teaching you how to break rules or regulations. Just provide a better method to keep your own data such as resume, bank information and etc in safer place.

I have setup testing wordpress environment for my new blog. I like to customized wordpress theme on my computer rather than upload the whole thing to web host. Because it is faster and easier to customized.

As you know, wordpress supplied random admin password once setup finish. I copy and paste the password to login. But after that, I forgot to change to my own password. I have tried a lot common password to enter admin panel but failed.

Reset Wordpress Admin Password

Since I have access to the local mysql database, I decide to reset the wordpress admin password manually. I used phpmyadmin to edit mysql database in graphic mode instead of command line.

While everbody is talking about the hot topic Second Level Domain Name (2LD) Public Launch, somebody is taking the opportunity to make money!

The official launch is on 25th March 2008. MYNIC open the registration of second level domain name “.MY” to the public in Malaysia. You need a registered company or Malaysia Identity card in order to apply for a dot my domain name. A .MY registration fee is RM120 per year (~USD$38.70).

This .MY domain fees is quite expensive compare to a .COM domain. We can get a .COM domain name for less than USD$10 easily which is nearly 4 times cheaper than .MY domain name.

The Make Money Idea

While we are thinking whether need to register a simpler, shorter internet address for better branding, somebody had taken big company’s domain name. One of the big domain name Google.my was registered by an web design company named DIGIAttack located in Ipoh.

I thought it was reserved for Google. After check the registrant details, it was not the case. Maybe you doubt is this a mistake by Google representative in Malaysia? Or Google never border on this second level domain?

I tried to search for others well known domain such as Yahoo.my, Youtube.my, and Gmail.my. All registered by related MYNIC handle. So I think the Google.my registered successful by some individual was due to a mistake (correct me if I wrong).

Now, what is he going to do with this Google.my domain name? Hmm, maybe write a search engine for Malaysian? Or sell it to Google Inc Malaysia representative? I think he can make some good money with this domain name!

Do you register a .MY domain name?

If your business based in Malaysia, I suggest you register quickly to secure your brand name. Of course, must check domain name availability first before register. Although it is much more expensive, but its worth to grab your own short brand name.

For myself, I will stick with my .com at this moment. To maintain few domains or blogs simultaneuosly is not that easy. Further more, domain name is just a name. Content and reader network is much more important.

I found some weird situation. Some domain name has not been register by someone (for eg: iphone.my), but MYNIC mentioned it is not available for registration? Do you know why?

This adorable boy showed his smile of success! He look so smart in the first photo. He looks serious when trying to climb the up. After his effort, he know he is not able to climb up and maybe he knows there is nothing on top of there. His humble make him satisfied with his achievement and happy always! Well, I think his mother’s appraisal made him smile perfectly on third photo.

I believe he feel happy during his outdoor activities under the sunny day. Today, after 21 months these photos has been taken, do you think he still smile perfectly like before?
